"I have worked with and known Lisa for 5 years and can only express gratitude for the immense support she has been during and after my recovery from Anxiety Disorder. Lisa creates a safe and private environment during her sessions where as a patient I always feel I can be 100% myself, where I will be heard and where her suggestions come from a place of honesty and true caring. I have recommended Lisa to family and friends and will continue to do so as well as continue to work with her on my own personal growth. Although always professional in her demeanor, speaking with Lisa always feels like Im talking to a friend and her concern stretches far beyond the office.
I started working with Lisa when I felt like my attempts to overcome PTS and succeed in my workplace would never come to fruition. I felt helpless. It seemed I was investing a lot of my time and money into therapy and various other means of healing but nothing was resulting in enough change and growth. By the time I came to Lisa, I was ready to give up and I felt like my lack of growth was evidence that I would never get to where I wanted to be.
Thank God for Lisa.
Lisa came into my life swinging. She was ready to fight for me and that inspired me to fight for myself. She helped me to focus on me and my feelings when it seemed like everyone else was always asking me to focus on the feelings of others. You can’t change feelings and behaviours because people ask you to. You can’t even change feelings and behaviours just because you want to. It’s incredibly hard to get out of the old habits of mind. I always feel like I am wearing people out with all my emotions. I always feel guilty for my feelings except when I am with Lisa. Lisa makes it feel okay to be me, okay to feel what I feel, and okay to move on from those feelings. That’s a rare gift in any person so I am grateful for her presence in my life.
Lisa is 24/7 support for me. Even when she is not able to actually talk to me, I still know that she is there in spirit and supporting me in her heart. For a person who finds it hard to trust, I found it easy to trust Lisa. The loving support always comes first with her. She is always a champion for my being and for my growth. She is authentic and a light of hope when I can’t seem to find my own light to guide me.
Once she establishes her loving approach to guidance, she then gives me honest feedback and helpful tips for growing in ways that are best for me, not for anyone else in my life. She says things honestly and openly and you know that she is not just going through the motions of counseling when she talks to you; she is speaking to your core being and giving you loving support and energy to move on from pain and mistakes and move toward more love and respect for yourself.
Nothing gets better when we don’t first love and support ourselves. Lisa teaches me how to be tender to my own feelings, how to accept and grow. She gives me space to say all the things I think and feel and she doesn’t judge me when those thoughts and feelings aren’t pretty. She meets me where I am and connects with me in empathy.
Since I started seeing Lisa, I have grown so much. I feel like I have someone in my corner to cushion the blow when I beat myself up and to rally behind me when I feel I can’t do something on my own. Through her support and guidance, I have seen myself being able to take things on in ways I never thought I could. I have become so much more than I ever was, even before I experience the trauma that brought me so low.
I have so much love and gratitude for Lisa. She will change your life, I promise.
"… somewhere in the spaces of the third… of you and me, because of your magical presence, for the first time, really, the very first time, I could imagine (briefly… only a glimpse) of a little me who could actually relax and trust… the being held and rocked and comforted, without fearful anticipation of the demand that that entailed… an early knowing that no adult would do that to the child-me except for purposes of their own--purposes that would sacrifice me to their twisted illness.
My whole body holds its breath and freezes at the thought of being held and rocked by an adult… or any powerful other. I have neither known mother nor father in any other ways but this.
Lisa your presence helps me find, sooth, and heal the deep holes in my heart…"
"Working with a therapist of any kind is an incredibly intimate and personal experience, and it is crucial to work with someone who is truly invested in giving the issues and challenges you're experiencing in your life the attention and care they need.
Lisa put me at ease and provided a safe, non-judgemental place to explore, heal, and resolve things that were causing me a lot of emotional anguish. When I was in a session, I knew I was genuinely cared about, and that Lisa valued me as a client and a person. She effectively and gently uses her insight and professional coaching and counselling tools with humour, compassion, and empathy to really listen and respond with useful feedback.
So many of the tools I use today to face daily life anxieties and more serious emotional upheaval come from my sessions with Lisa. She really is a true marvel and is meant to do this work. I recommend Lisa as a therapist to anyone who needs emotional support and assistance, no matter what the issue, Lisa's approach is remarkable."
"A testimonial of my experience with Lisa Tomlinson as my therapist for the last 1 1/2 years.
What I like most about Lisa's style is her ability to articulate a solution in a easy to understand fashion. She often shares her own life experiences coupled with her expertise. This approach helps me very much to feel comfortable so I can become more comfortably open and honest with her and in turn receive more help. I have had 3 long term therapists over the past 17 years. Lisa is by far the most effective.
I appreciate her friendly, gentle personality. She is also a true professional and extremely smart.
I would recommend Lisa for many different types of psychological issues as we have touched on many. I have had great results from all the work we have done together, including couples therapy."
"I met Lisa at near the beginning of 2013. I had struggled a lot with my confidence and my ability to perform under pressure in my sport. From 2010-2012, I had so called, “choked” under the pressure when it really counted. It had hit my confidence really hard and I struggled with competing every time this choking would happen. My mom came across Lisa on facebook through one of her old school friends and told her my situation and asked her if there was any way she could help. Lisa messaged my mom back that night and I talked to her the next day. Lisa was so nice over the phone and so understanding and she knew all the right things to say. She reassured to me that this wasn’t abnormal and there was nothing wrong with me because I had this difficulty, and it could actually be fixed. I finally got the opportunity to meet with her and she was even lovelier in person. I was quite nervous my first time to see her, but she makes you feel so comfortable and she genuinely cares about you and the problems you are facing. She is also very easy to talk to and really listens to what you say.
The second time I went back she remembered everything I had talked about before and started giving me useful techniques to use in competition and while I’m training. I loved the fact it wasn’t just about what happened in the gym for me, we talked about everything that goes on, with school, family, friends a lot of the things that I dealt with in the gym, had nothing to do with gym and she helped figure that out. Also she gave me tools for when I went home and different ways to deal with my problems outside some of my frustrations with my training and competing. We came to the root of my problem, and through that she made me believe in myself again and really reaffirm the fact I deserved success and I was worth it. Throughout that year each competition got better and better, and I made it onto the senior national team for double mini trampoline, and qualified for my 5th WAGS in power tumbling. I walked away from the competition with a silver medal in the team event at worlds, and gold in tumbling at WAGS.
I am now a world champion and it couldn’t have felt any better!!! I showed consistently throughout that year and at worlds and when the pressure came on and it was time to perform, I lived up to it and successfully competed, something I was not able to do before. I had accomplished my ultimate goals on that trip and I couldn’t have done any of it without the help of Lisa. Lisa helped me get over so many different issues and difficulties I was dealing with, that I really didn’t know was affecting me. She is a miracle worker, and such an amazing woman. Anyone looking for a therapist/ sports psychologist should go see Lisa. She is also very easy to get in contact with, always answers emails and texts and is very flexible when it comes to where and when you guys can meet. I use a lot of her techniques to this day and they are so helpful. Such a wonderful person and I’m so lucky I have the opportunity to work with her. I couldn’t have done anything I did without her, she truly helped me change way I looked at myself and helped me believe in myself again."
